Hello from Delaware

Well, hey! Long time, no see. What have I been up to this past month? Lots of work and lots of trips, including Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo and the U.S., where I'm currently sitting in my parents' dining room enjoying some pleasantly cool weather and a delicious cream doughnut. My sweaters and I are happy -- one, because I can finally wear sweaters for a change and two, because big bulky sweaters cover up the effects of too many cream doughnuts. It's a win-win.

Just before I arrived stateside last week, Mike and I spent nearly a week with our friends Sally and Mike and their super-adorable daughter Kyra who now live in Tokyo. They fed us all kinds of fantastic Japanese food and entertained us with Elmo and we had ourselves quite a little blast. And! The new camera arrived, so really, I have no excuse for these long delays. I'll return to Singapore next week just in time to meet my Aunt Judy for three days of sightseeing, and then we're off to Thailand for A Very Phuket Thanksgiving. Do you think someone will be able to whip me up some turkey pad thai?

In the meantime, enjoy this random sampling from the Tokyo trip. We are officially in love with Japan. It's really fantastic!

we start our adventures at the meiji shrine...

inside, there was a tree covered with little prayer boards

unforuntately, it was rather rainy for the first part of the week

but a little rain never gets us down. on to the very-early-morning tsujiki fish market!

sunshine! hooray!

whipping us up some delicious pancake-y things

a full report on harajuku girls will come on the other site shortly, but here's a snippet...

we admired the view with somewhat pricey cocktails at the top of this building one night. lovely!

we interrupt this post for some ridiculous cuteness

a little glimpse of the new camera

this man exited a bar, staggered to the curb, and immediately went to sleep. it was noon.

hey! there's the new camera...

About me

Well, hello there. You've reached the photoblog of Betsy, who has not actually lived in China for some time. The site name is not a total lie: She did live in Beijing from 2003-2005, but then moved to Singapore from 2006-2007. In late 2007, she returned home to the U.S., where she plans to continue posting pictures of her travels around the States and frequent trips back to Asia, and asks you all to just kindly accept the incorrect name of this site for just a little while longer. If you're crazy for Asia pictures, there are lots and lots of archives below that will surely satisfy that itch.

I also keep a fashion blog, if that's the kind of thing that interests you.

Want more? Go ahead and send me a note. I love mail!

About my cameras

Most of the pictures on this site have been taken with various versions of the Canon Elph (Ixus in Asia), most recently the Canon Elph SD400, which I purchased in late 2005. In early 2007, I also began using a Nikon D80 SLR camera with an 18-200mm kit lens and, more recently, a 52mm lens.
