If you like pina coladas...

Things have been mighty busy in these parts lately. Mike has been ushering around distinguished visitors and such, and I have been juggling new job possibilities (as well as the usual old ones). We did take a break over Thanksgiving to head to Phuket, where we were able to spend a few days with with the always enjoyable Kevin, who was visiting from D.C. Having Kevin around was good motivation to get out and see the island – boat trips! elephant rides! dancing with mustachioed Europeans and their Thai lady friends until the wee hours of the morn! – but once he left, we slipped back into our favorite Phuket routine of frequenting the lovely Chedi hotel and adjacent Pansea Beach. Ahhhh.

Other than that, we've been spending a lot of our time around Singapore. We celebrated Mike's birthday last weekend by proving we were not too old to hang out at nighclub hotspot Ministry of Sound. Of course, our favorite section was Studio 54, which plays a groovy selection of 70s and 80s dance hits. At least we're old and hip:

We've also been gearing up for my brother's Christmas visit in a few weeks. Of course, there's always something a little off about celebrating the holidays here:

And, as you may know, we've adopted kitties! So far, they seem to take great pleasure in tearing up the kitchen and snuggling together into one big furball. We've been slowly allowing them to explore the apartment, with varying degrees of success. I fear for my new West Elm Moroccan windowpane rug.

Now, I don't want to be one of those people who gush about how their kitties are the cutest. But… I'm pretty sure mine are. I mean, just look at those fuzzy faces!

About me

Well, hello there. You've reached the photoblog of Betsy, who has not actually lived in China for some time. The site name is not a total lie: She did live in Beijing from 2003-2005, but then moved to Singapore from 2006-2007. In late 2007, she returned home to the U.S., where she plans to continue posting pictures of her travels around the States and frequent trips back to Asia, and asks you all to just kindly accept the incorrect name of this site for just a little while longer. If you're crazy for Asia pictures, there are lots and lots of archives below that will surely satisfy that itch.

I also keep a fashion blog, if that's the kind of thing that interests you.

Want more? Go ahead and send me a note. I love mail!

About my cameras

Most of the pictures on this site have been taken with various versions of the Canon Elph (Ixus in Asia), most recently the Canon Elph SD400, which I purchased in late 2005. In early 2007, I also began using a Nikon D80 SLR camera with an 18-200mm kit lens and, more recently, a 52mm lens.
