Smells Like Spring!

For the past couple of years, I've timed my visits home perfectly: in the fall, just as the air turns crisp and cool and sweater-y; and in the spring, when the flowers pop and the air warms up and it smells like freshly mowed grass. The past two weekends have been the nicest to hit Delaware so far this year, and I took full advantage of being able to be outside for more than 30 minutes without overheating (sorry, Singapore—you are pretty, but you are beastly hot). Saturday afternoon was spent betting on the ponies; Sunday was Ed and Carol's massively awesome BBQ, which featured approximately eight different kinds of meat and fish, seven different kinds of cheese, and two different kinds of brownie ice cream (both recommended).
Let's go to the pics. First, the ponies!

Admittedly, it was not as sunny as it could have been:

So, on our last race, I bet all the money I had left ($3) on a super-long-shot called Travel Plans. He won by a nostril, and that $3 turned into $70. So guess where I went?…

Yep, you got it.
Sunday dawned much sunnier, and after a fantastic brunch with Dee, I headed over to Ed and Carol's for the big grilling event. In case you are wondering, here are all the ingredients of a great BBQ:
A new grill!

Chief of the Fields…

Delicious toppings… om…

Pink lawn decorations!

Serious sunshine:

Cold beer:

Things wrapped in bacon:

Goofy t-shirts:

Good tunes:

Hammocks:

Ed, manning the grill:

Snacks galore!

Stylized pictures in the top of the shiny new grill:

Dueling Parrarazzo:

Cute shoes!

And we're done.

Scallops are meat?
well, they're meat-y. close enough.

i am enjoying your blog and photos every time i come around.
tina.
btw: stacey, your mom has got it going on, in case i forgot to mention that when we were bowling earlier tonight.
i can't believe you caved on the meat issue. you were technically right on. to draw it out, it would be, 'the meat of an oyster wrapped in the meat of a pig.' or swine. unless that is turkey bacon. whatever. you get the point.
