How I Spent My Summer. And Fall.

Well, hello. It's been awhile. (Cue dramatic, adult contemporary music here.)

I didn't really mean to disappear for so long. (And in fact, I'm still over on the other blog quite often, so you can check that I'm still alive by clicking there.) But it occurs to me that my non-fashion-obsessed friends and family – such as dad, Ryan, the brothers Guschl, for starters – might be wondering about my whereabouts. And so, let's recap.

Where did we leave off? Ah, Burma. I guess it was a good thing we went when we did.

Then there was June. And I turned 30. 30! (I have reached that age where I profusely thank everyone who asks me if I'm in my mid-20s.) My birthday coincided with the Singapore departure of our good friends the Guschls, so we marked both occasions with a rousing BBQ and bar crawl across Singapore. T-shirts were made:

I will refrain from posting pictures from the party, mostly so I don't offend my mother (just kidding, mom. Sort of.) Instead, I will just post some random pretty shots that don't fit anywhere else in this update:

Also, it is silly or respectful that I am 30 and still concerned about offending my mother?

Then, let's see: July! In July, I got a job where I could sit around and talk fashion with a bunch of very fun (and very stylish) people. My adventures ended for awhile while I concentrated on real, actual work.

Oh, but you know how I can't stay away from the airport for too long. So we hit up Hong Kong and then Bangkok over a couple of long weekends.

First, Hong Kong, where we met up with the fabulous Alissa and Nadia:

Then Bangkok, where we shopped our little hearts out. So much so that I didn't actually take any pictures. Rest assured, it was great.

And then there was that whole all-expenses-paid-trip-to-Paris thing (thank you, Chanel!). I met fabulous bloggers, drank coffee at little cafes and wore through a pair of Keds while traipsing all across the fabulous City of Light. Also of croissants. And wine. And couture.

More recently, we just got back from nearly a week in Bali (oh, how we love Bali) and we must highly, highly recommend the ribs and martinis and Naughty Nuri's in Ubud. Also, the best cheesesteaks this side of Philadelphia.

Tomorrow, I'm off to Kuala Lumpur for the first time, and then we're meeting up with a group of old China friends in Phuket for A Very Thai Thanksgiving (again!). In the meantime, you didn't think I'd let an update go by without some gratuitous kitty photos, did you? The kids are getting bigger and cuter and more ridiculous every day:

And there went the last six months. I promise to be back sooner this time.

About me

Well, hello there. You've reached the photoblog of Betsy, who has not actually lived in China for some time. The site name is not a total lie: She did live in Beijing from 2003-2005, but then moved to Singapore from 2006-2007. In late 2007, she returned home to the U.S., where she plans to continue posting pictures of her travels around the States and frequent trips back to Asia, and asks you all to just kindly accept the incorrect name of this site for just a little while longer. If you're crazy for Asia pictures, there are lots and lots of archives below that will surely satisfy that itch.

I also keep a fashion blog, if that's the kind of thing that interests you.

Want more? Go ahead and send me a note. I love mail!

About my cameras

Most of the pictures on this site have been taken with various versions of the Canon Elph (Ixus in Asia), most recently the Canon Elph SD400, which I purchased in late 2005. In early 2007, I also began using a Nikon D80 SLR camera with an 18-200mm kit lens and, more recently, a 52mm lens.
