 typical delhi hubbub from above
I know I'm becoming a potential candidate for Worst Blogger Ever. (So much so that I even wrote the post below a few weeks ago and totally forgot to upload it.) Things have been a blur of travel (I spent much of the last week in Bangkok), work and trying to find assignments that will allow me to do more traveling and work. (And shopping, of course.) The next U.S. tour will commence in a month, with stops in L.A., Delaware, NYC, Philly and Delray Beach, FL. Maybe we can meet up at the thrift store? I feel like it's been forever since I've had a proper dig through the polyester and I can't wait.
In the meantime, some photos from my trip to India last week. I wasn't as charmed by the sights as I usually am -- maybe because I was too busy, or maybe because it was my third trip to India this year? -- but I still managed to see some amazing stuff. Truth be told, my pictures have been feeling a little uninspired lately. Perhaps I'm subconsciously saving all my creativity for when the fancy new camera arrives later this month?
fashion week scenes, as chronicled on the other blog
i chanced upon a street of men with typewriters, for hire if you needed something typed
for the first time, i got out of the delhi and bombay and to a new city: lucknow
though i'm not sure i recommend you visit, it really was a fascinating place
 lots of beautiful old architecture
 and goats!
 and schoolboys!
 and crumbling old buidlings!
 and... that's all.

I do appreciate that many of you still diligently check this blog every day. (Hi mom! Hi dad!) I know I've been a little neglectful lately and giving all my attention to the new baby. Don't despair! Things have just been very busy lately, but we're working on a redesign and some new opportunities to take photos (because really, how many photos of Singapore buildings can one person post?). I've also just ordered a very pretty and very fancy new camera, and cannot wait to start using it.
In any case, it's been a whirlwind around here lately, with no signs of letting up. I'm off to India tonight for 9 days and then Bangkok immediately after. I'm tentatively working on a return trip to China late next month, and we're hoping to go to Tokyo in early October to meet the adorable Kyra (and say hi to her parents, Sally and Mike, too). My semi-annual pilgrimmage to the US will occur in October, where we're looking forward to hanging out with several pregnant people (for example). And then there's Burma and Phuket and then lots and lots and lots of rest. And that's pretty much all of fall for you.

me and my very old but very loved camera
Well, hey! Yesterday was Singapore's National Day, which meant everyone had the day off, which seemed like a perfect excuse to hang out and make fresh blueberry pancakes. Yum, if I do say so myself. The night before was the second of Singapore's four fireworks spectaculars; so far, we've seen them all. And I don't even really like fireworks all that much! One of the fireworks shows actually became a field trip for our photography class, so I packed up my trusty Minolta and my new tripod and off I went. (Of course, my tripod was still wrapped up in the box, which was probably not very cool, but I was just excited to finally have one.) I haven't gotten the film pictures back yet -- there was some issue with my cable release, so I have a feeling they are going to be very... interesting. But hopefully in a good way!
Not much else to report. I'm wrapping up some articles and searching for some new ones to keep me busy. I want to take a trip around the end of the month, though I'm not sure what's going to work out yet. At the least, maybe I'll just go to Bali and hang out in the rice paddies for awhile. Stay tuned!
i love the colors of this picture, chanced upon on the way to the fireworks
oh my, the crowds! it was pretty jam-packed at the best viewing spots.
here i am studiously setting up the camera. er, no, this was not posed. mostly.
there were several hundred other photo enthusiasts lined up as well.
 boom!

Hello! I am back from Bombay, only slightly worse for the wear (the trip was exhausting yet invigorating, though I suspect I let down my guard too much on the way home and shouldn't have eaten the airplane food, as I got very ill shortly after arriving back in Singapore.) I've been nursed back to health on a diet of lemonade and Wheat Thins, and am ready to embrace the rest of my summer vacation. Can you believe it's August already? It's blowing my mind.
Much of the details of my Bombay adventure will be saved for the upcoming article, but they included: buying several new kurtas (basically, a long tunic -- and my new comfy outfit of choice); eating *so many* delicious meals (everything from the best salmon sashimi I've ever had to an unfathomable amount of clarified butter); and trolling around the city's neighborhoods for highly recommended but incredibly local cafes (you go into the kitchen -- surprisingly clean -- and four little boys are sitting there rolling out chapattis). I'll say this about Bombay: It is an intense place to visit, but it is also like nowhere else I've ever been.
did i mention it's monsoon season? this was the view from my hotel window.
sadly, no elephants were seen passing through the gate

i love all the old colonial architecture

i also love the old-school ambassador taxi cabs
