don't you just love the smell of a good Christmas tree?

It doesn't quite feel like Christmas without millions of blinking lights, garish decorations, and Chinese Santas everywhere. (Truly, you may think America goes overboard for the holidays, but the Chinese win the tacky Christmas decoration competition hands down. And this is from a girl who was just in Vegas yesterday.) I thought I'd use this (tiny) break to wish everyone a very happy holidays. I'm off to Florida in the morning, so expect photos of Christmas-y palm trees very soon.

so merry and bright.

sea lions!

So sorry about the lack of updates, but I've been distracted by extreme fun. Example #1: Mike's Vegas birthday, with Anson, Erica, Alissa, Rick, and Megan. Someone taught me how to play blackjack, and now I am hooked. We'll leave it at that. Example #2: Rick's Los Angeles-style hospitality. I think I explain everything when I say Disneyland was involved. I love Disneyland! Example #3: A drive up the California coast, which involved a ridiculous amount of sea lions. Example #4: The great city of San Francisco, where I am currently sitting on John and non-blogger Leanne's red couch, surrounded by talkative kitties and discussing celebrity-related blogs at length. And now, the photos.

vegas has castles! with blackjack inside!

and then, in southern california, there was disneyland!

where there are more castles!

and dancing action heros!

i think this is an exclamation point-y kind of update. (!)

and mary poppins! with a penguin and an asian baby! really, all my favorite things together at last.

i also loved the getty museum in l.a., particularly this photography show.

ooooooh.

aaaaaah.

owwwwww.

we also pretended it was 1993 and hung out at the viper room.

the band sort of rocked, which made us feel okay about paying to get into a club that was hot 10 years ago.

rick would want you to know this liquor store is featured in the opening credits of entourage

i had to ask john and leanne about the acceptable number of sea lion pictures i could post and they said three.

and so here you are.

we took a trip to napa and got very inspired by (or possibly very drunk at) cakebread

prettttty.

luckily we had our fun early, because then there was an adventure with a flat tire.

i ask you, does the fun ever stop?

these photos are courtesy of the sculpture garden at sf's pretty, new de young museum.

Hi, I'm Betsy. I'm actually no longer in China, but I used to be. I moved to Beijing on October 30, 2003 and started this site shortly thereafter to chronicle my adventures. I departed on October 19, 2005 to head back to the US for a short while. But! I'll be relocating to Singapore in January 2006. So stick around, it should be fun.

Want more? Go ahead and e-mail me. Say hello!
