Turns out there's nothing like a little trip to beautiful Phuket to boost your mood. Enjoy the pics; I've got some work to do.

visions of animal-style, protein-style burgers dance in my head...

Just a quick note to say I'm safely back in Singapore, for those of you who care about such things. Actually, the past few days have been a little rough, so I'm self-medicating with Gilmore Girls episodes and comfort food. Or, at least, photos of comfort food. In 'n Out burger, you are already very missed.

hey! it's everyone's favorite bricky alma mater!

My whirlwind American tour continued in Delaware, also known as the First State and the Home of Tax-Free Shopping. I was able to take full advantage of that second distinction in many of the area's fine thrift establishments, where I upped my polyester ownership significantly. It also didn't hurt that it was one of the prettiest weeks of the year, all pink-flowered trees and blooming gardens and lots of tiny bunnies running around. I am not kidding about the bunnies. There were bunnies everywhere!

Highlights from the very brief visit: Carli's ridiculously cute baby, Will; lunch in Philly with Rich, who is one step away from an "I heart Slayer" t-shirt; several meals consisting of bobbies (!!); Wendy's, the finest $3 meal around; some good quality family time; running around the UD campus with my still-very-bearded brother, feeling very old and trying to look like successful alumni. Or at least alumni. (Non-highlights: Being yelled at and accused of being "lame" for my responsible beverage choices. I solemnly swear to be less lame in the future.)

I'm now on my way to Southern California, to celebrate the nuptials of Brin and Marn. I have been promised In 'n' Out burgers and very good wine, possibly at the same time, which is a combination I heartily endorse.

since i've estimated that three out of four regular readers of this site are UD graduates, i thought we'd take a trip down memory lane.

part one of a short series on newly introduced university paraphenalia.

apparently, the kids go for the butt print shorts nowadays. and they're cheap!

beer pong is also big at the national 5 & 10.

apparently, they needed to reassure shoppers that beer pong shirts are an a-ok statement.

so. much. brick!

my brother and i hung out on main street and ate some burritos and walked around a lot.

did you know there is a cold stone creamery on main street now?

a big congratulations to mugsy, who got engaged last week! here he is not showing off any sort of ring, because boys don't get that benefit. still. yay!

It's time for our favorite Delaware pasttime: Extreme closeup montage!

a clean-shaven ed. very handsome. also: not dead.

did you know esteban no longer owns a white geo tracker?

not featured: ryan's paper napkin ring-aided impersonation of a certain nazi dictator

Forgive me in advance: I'm having a very Julie Andrews-The Hills are Alive kind of moment, where I sort of want to run around mountains and sing and explode with happiness. The last time I was back for a nice long weekend in New York, I had a severe case of marathon madness and declared it among the Best. Weekends. Evah. Well, kids, I do believe we may have topped it. Let's quickly recap, shall we?

After nearly 18 hours of quality airplane time, I arrived back in New York just in time for happy hour Thursday night. And it was quite happy: Anne and Adam were there, and Cat and Carl, and Holly and Nate and Ben and many, many glasses of $4 wine. And Rush Hour burgers and tater tots, round one. And then: sleep. And then: awake! To get new India visas and hang out at Barneys and have lunch with Cat, and take a quick nap -- and then drinky-poos, as the kids say.

Nearly everyone returned for round two Friday night, plus Amy and my Novelist Friend Jami (whose very first book arrives in stores in June. order it now!) and Tamar and Matt and Kim and quite possibly the entire stock of Heron Chardonnay at the wonderfully selected Clandestino (which should always, always be pronounced as if there were an exclamation point on the end. ClandesTINO!) And more Rush Hour burgers. And a lot of late-night sitting around and talking with Cat, mostly about important things like how fat her cat continues to get.

And then: Saturday! The perfect technicolor day, where the sky is bright blue and the trees are bright green and it is perfect for walking around in Brooklyn and then barbequeing at Nate and Holly's Cutest House Ever. There were many mimosas and cute Brooklyn shopping and fun restaurants and cupcakes and kitties. Phew.

And now: Back in Delaware, prepped for thrift shopping. Perhaps I'll find myself a nun's habit and run around in the trees a bit. But really: Thanks again for the hospitalities, kids.

And seriously: Where are your rollerskates when you need them? Because this is a rollerskate moment if I ever had one.

remnants of too much fun.

this is carl. he enjoys canoodling. but he also gamely posed for these photos, which means i will not mock him too much.

even cat got in on the action later.

on the other end of the table, nate got in touch with in touch.

brooklyn!

did you know you can take a double-decker bus tour of brooklyn now?

there was much laughing and much barbequeing. sometimes simultaneously.

group photo!

i then felt left out of the group photo. so here's me!

please make tamar tell tyra banks show stories when you see her. you will not regret it.

the cat was extremely jealous. because, after all...

tamar and matt's cat does tricks!

and then on sunday, I walked around the city eating bagels and stuff. isn't beard papa the cutest cream puff mascot ever?

it was actually good preparation for my hairy brother, seen here recovering from a delicious mexican food encounter.

Hi, I'm Betsy, and I'm in Singapore. (But I used to live in China, hence the name of this site, which I am just too lazy/busy/reluctant to change. See the archives below for more on that.) I arrived in Singapore on January 5, 2006 for two years of palm trees, shopping malls and regular rainstorms. There are lots of adventures in the works, so stick around, it should be fun.

Want more? Go ahead and e-mail me. Say hello!
